Bold Dreams, Bright Future: Gabriella Shipman’s Hospitality Journey

Gabriella Shipman, a recent graduate from The Swiss Hotel School South Africa, has set her sights on making a meaningful impact in the hospitality industry. Her journey highlights how a genuine love for people and a focus on personal growth can pave the way for future success.

From a young age, Gabriella loved working with others and making them feel comfortable and valued. “Hospitality felt like a natural fit because it allows me to create memorable experiences every day,” she shared. This passion for connection and storytelling has been a guiding force throughout her studies and early career.

Her education at The Swiss Hotel School played a pivotal role in shaping her skill set. “It provided a perfect blend of theory and practical experience, especially with overseas internships,” Gabriella explained. Exposure to different cultures and work environments strengthened her foundation and prepared her to thrive in diverse settings.

Gabriella’s interests are centered on Front Office and Marketing, where she enjoys establishing relationships and sharing compelling stories. “First impressions are everything, and I love being the first point of contact,” she said. Marketing also excites her because it allows her to combine creativity with her people skills—bringing a brand’s personality to life in innovative ways.

Throughout her academic journey, Gabriella developed essential skills such as handling pressure, teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving. These attributes contributed to her immediate success in the workforce, earning her recognition as one of the top employees of the month at her new company.

Reflecting her cultural background, Gabriella brings warmth, resilience, and a caring spirit inspired by the South African value of Ubuntu—the idea of togetherness and compassion. “I aim to make everyone feel at home, no matter where they come from,” she asserted, emphasizing her approachable and adaptable nature.

Looking ahead, Gabriella envisions herself in a leadership role—be it front office management or marketing—and hopes to influence how brands connect with their guests. She is also passionate about mentorship, eager to guide future hospitality students just as others have guided her.

Her choice to study at The Swiss Hotel School was driven by the institution’s reputation and the opportunity to gain international experience through internships abroad. For Gabriella, stepping into real-world environments has always been about expanding her horizons and challenging herself.

Her passion for hospitality was ignited during the Future Leaders Challenge, an experience that opened doors and affirmed her belief in her potential. “That program showed me how much I can achieve in this field,” she reflected, “and it continues to push me to aim higher.”
