Schulphoek House is set on the protected Schulphoek bay in Sandbaai (Sand Bay), Hermanus. Founded in 1999, the guesthouse has offered understated luxury and Cape refinement to its guests. In 2017 Schulphoek House underwent a major renovation. Sea facing rooms were added and the existing rooms and common spaces were enhanced. Schulphoek bay is a place of tranquility; home to cove dwelling marine life and a place of respite for visiting Southern Right whales during their annual calfing season. At Schulphoek House we take great pride in our cuisine and wine offering. Our cellar has been curated to offer wines from our Hemel-en-Aarde region with some vintages that are available in vertical tastings dating back to 1997. Our menu is limited to fresh and locally sourced ingredients; venison from the nearby Karoo region and fish that is offered daily by local fishermen. We believe in producing our own vegetables and herbs and we are very proud to offer our guests our daily harvest from our seasonal crop. Our efforts at sustainability, which began in 1999 with water harvesting, solar heating and a salt water pool have been continued in our 2017 renovation. Our vision is to be both carbon neutral as well as bio-dynamic. Our integrated solar, water and cooling systems pair with green building materials used consistently through our new renovation. We have invested in the Hermanus community. We have invested in the local people and the community. Our aim is to enhance and benefit families that were previously disadvantaged. Schulphoek staff are sourced from the Hermanus area. Since many staff come from disadvantaged backgrounds Schulphoek House has invested in training and development through learner ship training programmes both internally and externally. As a 5-Star establishment we are dedicated to delivering service excellence with the local flair of South African traditional hospitality.
