House of Azari to showcase its three Cap Classiques at the Bubbly & Gin Summer Garden Party & Polo
Almost two years ago, Siphiwe Katjene’s lifetime dream came true when she launched her very own Cap Classique brand called House of Azari. The Pretoria-based wife, mother of three and an industrial psychologist by profession, Katjene is the co-founder of PsychWell, a consulting firm she manages with her husband. She is also the owner of House of Azari and will be showcasing her three Cap Classiques at the Bubbly & Gin Summer Garden Party & Polo, which is being held at the Val de Vie Estate in Paarl on Saturday, November 23 from 12h00 to 18h00.
We spoke to Katjene to find out how it all began and what visitors to the event can expect from her bubbly.
How and when did the House of Azari start?
My lifelong dream of owning a label dedicated to Cap Classique has materialised into the exquisite reality of House of Azari. Cap Classique has always been more than a beverage, it’s a cherished elixir that inspired me to embark on a remarkable journey. December 2022 marked the birth of House of Azari, a testament to my dedication and passion.
Where does the name come from?
The name Azari, rooted in Arabic, signifies divine assistance, power, strength, fire, a pioneering spirit and a spiritual idealist.
Who produces your Cap Classiques?
I collaborate with a farm in Stellenbosch, infusing creativity into the art of winemaking.
Tell us about the bubbly you will be pouring at the event
We’ll be offering guests the opportunity to taste our three varietals: the Brut Rosé – an elegant Pinot Noir/Chardonnay Cap Classique that showcases a delicate ballet of rose-hued effervescence, speaking tales of sun-kissed vineyards and masterful vinification. Its light pink colour and enthralling aroma of red berries, cherries and subtle hints of grapefruit whisper promises of a transcendent tasting experience. Each sip unfolds layers of crisp freshness intertwined with nuances of berries and gentle mineral undertones. I’m proud to say that it was recently awarded a Gold medal at the Intercontinental Wine Challenge 2024.
Then there’s our Nectar Rosé – a Pinot Noir Cap Classique feast for the eyes. The light pink colour is reminiscent of a romantic sunset, promising an experience as unforgettable as its appearance. The aroma is a delicate dance of strawberries and raspberries, layered with subtle spices and floral notes, inviting you into a sip of pure bliss.
And last but certainly not least, our Brut Blanc De Blancs 2020. Produced with the utmost dedication, this award- winning Cap Classique embraces the true essence of Chardonnay grapes, revealing a vivacious dance of crisp acidity, green apple notes, and a hint of toasted brioche. It’s golden hue and effervescent charm speak volumes, whispering tales of sunlit vines and masterful fermentation. Each sip promises a journey, intertwining the finesse of Méthode Cap Classique with the purity of Chardonnay. It was awarded a score of 90 in the Tim Atkin 2023 SA Wine Report
What are the best food pairings with your bubbly?
With the Brut Rosé I’d go with smoked salmon, shrimp, duck or a fresh red berry salad with watermelon and feta cheese while the Nectar Rosé goes well with seared tuna steak, grilled duck, crème brûleé or blue cheese. The Brut Blanc De Blancs is best enjoyed with mussels, oysters, salmon, calamari or roast chicken with herbs or soft cheese and almonds.
Where do you see Azari in five years’ time?
House of Azari will consistently raise the bar in terms of quality and distinction to ensure that it becomes a household, national, sub-Saharan and international brand.
