Addressing South Africa’s rapidly expanding need for service and customer-centric education

Hospitality management qualifications offer a foundation for a wide range of careers beyond hotels and hospitality itself and address South Africa’s rapidly expanding need for a service and customer-centric education.

Graduates are able to enter a multitude of positions within companies, including banking, retail, sales, telecommunication and information technology, marketing, accountancy, HR, consultation, product development and more. All these are roles that require a strong customer-centric attitude and employees who understand client interface and can handle various crises and diversity.

The IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management (IIEHSM) has eight courses from which to choose a career path in the hospitality industry. One of the courses – the Bachelor of Service Management – has been designed to develop students into effective service managers within various industries. Key to this programme is instilling a thorough understanding of service as a universal language of business.

The IIE Bachelor in Service Management Degree opens up a world of opportunities developing confidence, professionalism and business expertise. It affords students the opportunity to follow their interests and passion globally, with the skills and mindset, to create exceptional experiences and be able to run and operate a business at any level.

The IIE’s Bachelor of Service Management offers three specialised pathways:

  • Service Management: Banking
  • Service Management: Retail
  • Service Management: Telecommunication and Information Technology

It is offered as both a full time, three-year long degree or four to seven year online programme.

Says Marna Swanepoel, a lecturer at the IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management in Cape Town: “Apart from the hospitality-focused skills these graduates take with them a range of transferable skills that include analytical and problem-solving skills, delegation and task management, marketing and finance and networking and people management. Another key skill hospitality graduates develop is a keen eye for identifying and responding to client needs. With these crucial skills, any hospitality graduate can excel in various industries.

“I believe that hospitality graduates are inimitably positioned in today’s service-oriented world. By tapping into this versatile talent pool, businesses will benefit from their skills, transforming customer experiences and shaping the future of service management,” she says.

The IIEHSM has campuses in Johannesburg and Cape Town. See their website or email info@iiehsm.com for more information.
