Deputy Minister of Tourism Maggie Sotyu to Host a Sustainable Tourism Workshop for SMMEs in the Free State Province
The Deputy Minister of Tourism Ms. Maggie Sotyu will host a 2-day Sustainable Tourism Workshop on 11 and 12 April 2025 in the Moqhaka Local Municipality, Kroonstad, in the Free State Province.
The Workshop aims to highlight the importance of sustainability in the tourism industry, while celebrating the growth and diversity of the tourism offerings in the Free State province. The workshop will also share information on the Department’s capacity and empowerment programmes.
SMMEs can look forward to engagements with the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa, the Department of Small Business Development, the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency, SATOVITO (South African Townships and Village Tourism Organizations), and the National Youth Development Agency.
The Sustainable Tourism Workshop takes place as the country commemorates Freedom Month in April. Freedom Month offer an opportunity for the citizenry to reflect on the progress made in transforming our society, while also examining our challenges. The workshop will empower and inspire SMME’s to leverage on the gains borne out of our democracy by actively participating in targeted government programmes and initiatives.
The Deputy Minister will be joined by the executives from the Free State Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, and the representatives of the local municipalities under the Fezile Dabi District Municipality.
