Kenyan Hospitality Facilities Recognized Among Africa’s Best At Inaugural Tatler Africa Awards
Kenya is strengthening its position as a premier luxury destination in Africa, driven by growing investment in world-class hospitality facilities and exclusive tourism experiences.
Fifteen Kenyan properties were honoured on Thursday at the inaugural Tatler Best Africa Awards in Nairobi which recognised 100 hotels across 21 African countries, selected through the votes of an elite panel of more than 95 industry professionals globally. A further 12 Best-in-Class honours were awarded across specialist categories.
The recognition comes amid growing investment by the private sector in world-class hospitality facilities, as Kenya works to attract discerning global travellers seeking exceptional service and distinctive experiences.
The ceremony marked the culmination of the 16th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo, which drew a record 10,000 delegates from more than 40 countries to Uhuru Gardens over three days alongside 400 exhibitors and 250 international buyers.
Speaking during the awards evening, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the partnership with Tatler reflects the country’s growing confidence in its position within the global luxury travel conversation.
“Kenya is proud to host this first edition of Tatler Best Africa. For the last three days, the 2026 Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) has opened doors, created business and deepened partnerships. We hope those conversations translate to more visitors, longer stays and greater investment for communities nationwide. Tonight is ample proof that we can host major international events while crafting memorable experiences for our valued visitors,” said CS Miano.
She said the awards placed Kenya’s hotels, restaurants and tourism businesses before influential travellers, investors and hospitality groups whose engagement with the continent is steadily deepening, and whose endorsement carries weight in the global luxury travel market.
“Tatler Best Africa celebrates excellence where it matters most, the visitor experience that decides a destination’s competitiveness. The hotels honoured tonight are raising the bar for African hospitality and urging the wider industry to keep investing in quality, innovation, service and distinctive experiences,” she added.
Miano added that the Government would continue to create an environment where tourism thrives, because the sector sustains jobs, investment, enterprise and livelihoods.
It was the first time Tatler staged its Best Awards programme in Africa, following the global expansion of the unified hospitality framework, which originally debuted in 2024, outside of the Asia-Pacific region into the Middle East the previous year.
Kenya’s Wild Hill, a luxury property perched above the plains of the Maasai Mara, was named Hotel of the Year, the highest individual honour of the evening.
Tourism Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok said the scale of Kenya’s recognition at the awards reflects the maturity and depth of the country’s hospitality offering, which now spans wildlife, conservation, coastline, gastronomy, culture, wellness, adventure, fashion, art and sport.
“The establishments recognised demonstrate what is possible when we invest in quality, creativity, service and distinctive experiences. As we celebrate excellence across Africa, we also celebrate the enormous potential of African tourism, and Kenya’s responsibility to lead that conversation with the quality of what it offers the world,” said PS Bitok.
Tatler Asia Chief Experience Officer Sean Fitzpatrick said Africa had been the natural choice for the awards programme’s first expansion beyond its home region, noting that Africa has consistently generated the strongest content engagement and travel interest among Tatler’s global readership in recent years.
“Over five decades, Tatler has built communities of discerning individuals who are passionate about travel, gastronomy and experiences, and who have the means to pursue that passion fully. Africa, and Kenya specifically, is where that passion has been pointing,” said Fitzpatrick.
He confirmed that next year’s awards programme will expand to recognise the Best 100 Restaurants, Best 100 Bars, and accolades for cruises and wider experiences.
The recognition is delivered under a three-year partnership between the Kenya Tourism Board and Tatler Africa, designed to place Kenya’s premium tourism product before a sustained global audience.
The fifteen Kenyan hotels honoured include: &Beyond Ol Donyo Lodge, &Beyond Suyian Lodge, Angama Amboseli, Angama Mara, Arijiju, Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp, Finch Hattons Luxury Camp, Hemingways Nairobi, Ishara Mara, Loirien Mara, Mahali Mzuri, Ol Jogi, Sirai Beach, Sirai House, and Wild Hill.
