The IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management Adds Two New Courses Ahead of its Open Day

South Africa’s premier hospitality school, The IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management (IIE HSM) has announced the addition of two exciting new courses to its curriculum. The news comes ahead of the school’s upcoming Open Day, which will be held at its campuses in Cape Town and Johannesburg on Saturday, May 11, from 09h00 to 12h00.

The two recently added courses are:

The IIE Bachelor of Service Management – a full time three year course curated to develop students into effective service managers within various industries. Key to this programme is instilling an understanding of service as a universal language of business. Students are supported in developing advanced commercial communications skills through an engagement with theory, focusing specially on service management, customer engagement and business management, as well as key managerial skills that will set them apart in the industry, particularly leadership and revenue management and research-based decision making.

The IIE Diploma in Foodservice Management & Nutrition – a three year contact and distance learning (online) course that aims to develop business acumen in the food service industry, focusing on expert knowledge of nutrition and food and beverage management, with business skills perfected through a practical focus on food service law, business communications and project management. The conceptual learning in class is supported with experiential learning through placement with industry partners to ensure students graduate with a perfect balance between theory and practice.

Other courses offered by the school include:

  • The IIE Higher Certificate in Hospitality Management, provides students with the required operational, interpersonal and analytical skills to ensure that they can fill entry level positions in the hospitality industry, where they can advance with further experience to fill supervisory or junior management positions in hospitality and service-focused operations. This IIE qualification also creates a pathway to enrol for The IIE degree
  • The IIE Bachelor of Hospitality Management – a three-year degree course that enables graduates to practise and demonstrate their responsibility and initiative in the hospitality management context through Work Integrated Learning modules in all three years of study, for employment in both the private and the public sector. 
  • The IIE Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Leadership Distance, an 18-month online qualification aimed at experienced hospitality professionals who wish to specialise in hospitality leadership and to provide access to and promote life-long opportunities for continued personal and professional growth.
  • The IIE Advanced Certificate in Hospitality Management, a one year on campus course (or 18 months online) that equips learners to demonstrate a coherent and encompassing understanding of management principles and how these apply to hospitality operations.
  • The IIE Higher Certificate in Event Management – a one year course that prepares graduates to coordinate and manage a broad spectrum of events in a professional manner. Students are equipped with the ability and skills to plan, organize, and execute events in various industries and sectors
  • The IIE Higher Certificate in Travel – a full-time, NQF Level 5 qualification leading to an exciting career in one of the most vibrant industries globally, this one-year course is perfect for those who enjoy crafting travel itineraries and sharing destination insights, aiming to turn their passion into a rewarding profession. (offered at Rosebank campus only).

Attendees to the Open Day will have the opportunity to interact with the schools’ lecturers and speak to expert advisors who will assist in making their hospitality and service career dreams a reality and set them on the path to success. 

Says the school’s academic operations administrator Yolanda Mlangeni: “IIE HSM offers programmes that are aligned with industry needs and trends, providing practical skills and knowledge, to attract students seeking relevant and up-to-date education.
