Winter Wonder this June at Lions Rock Rapids
Winter is normally associated with the icy cold, but here in the Lowveld, a wonderfully mild climate welcomes you in June. Many prefer to travel to the Lowveld during this time, as the temperature ranges from mid to low twenties and allows for perfect outdoor living with lovely sunny days. The landscape of the area is more open, allowing for excellent bird watching opportunities. The river is also calmer, which makes fishing that much more enjoyable for any newbies. Our roaring boma fire at Lions Rock Rapids crackles away every evening, giving much desired warmth to bask in, while enjoying some hot chocolate or a drink from the bar. Our luxury tents all boast air-cons to keep you snug through the night, and if you are staying in our lodge accommodation, your favourite spot is sure to be the Jacuzzi bath, with a glass of wine or champagne in hand. Winter wonders all around!
Meet the Stars of our Fine Food
The mouth-watering meals at Lions Rock Rapids are a consistent theme in our guest feedback and for very good reason! While here, you might get to sample, what has been described by some, as one of the best pizzas in South Africa, or you may find yourself indulging in one of our luscious cheesecakes. The loving hands behind these meals belong to three very talented ladies: Portia, Wendy and Alucia.
Portia joined us in July of 2018 as a sculler in the kitchen, although she couldn’t resist helping with the cooking, and her love for food was soon evident. She learned very quickly and was promoted to head chef in 2022. Portia delights our guests with her creations, and it is not uncommon for handwritten notes to be seen leaving the kitchen after a guests’ request for some recipe or other. One of Portia’s signature dishes is rich and creamy, crumbed risotto balls, which we serve as a starter. Another favourite among our guests must be the 3-cheese phyllo pastry parcels. Crispy, delicate pastry filled with mozzarella, cheddar and a hint of blue cheese that oozes out as you bite into it. Even those averse to blue cheese will love this dish! A top contender for mains is our tender beef fillet, lightly drizzled with cheese sauce and served with yellow rice and seasonal veg. In winter, especially on chillier evenings, guests relish our famous spaghetti bolognaise, creamy potato soup and not to mention, our decadent malva pudding. Comfort food fit for a king!
What Awaits this June
We are very fond of hosting our senior international guests and sharing the full Lions Rock Rapids experience with them. From enjoying meals with us, to experiencing the unforgettable sights of the Kruger National Park. Their feedback is always positive, and we wanted to start sharing the same experience with our local retired folk.
This month we look forward to hosting our first all-inclusive pensioners’ packages. Our vision was to create a truly memorable getaway for guests in a similar stage of life and to afford the opportunity of fostering new friendships. These guests will enjoy delectable meals with us, while being thoroughly spoiled over the 4 nights they spend at Lions Rock Rapids. They will experience the wonder of chasing waterfalls along the breath-taking Panorama route, and thrilling game drives through the Kruger National Park.
